Grand-Cul-de-Sac, St Barth

AQUA · 6-Bedroom Villa in Grand-Cul-de-Sac

AQUA has six bedrooms and sleeps twelve, in Grand-Cul-de-Sac. I live here year round, so here is what I can tell you plainly: the bay is closed by a reef, the water inside is shallow and flat, and this is the side of the island people come to for board sports. What follows sticks to what I actually know about the house.

Ask about this villa

I am on St Barth. Want to be sure before you book? Ask me and I will send you fresh photos or a short video of this villa on WhatsApp, or go and see it in person for you. Nothing staged, nothing hidden.

What Grand-Cul-de-Sac is really like

The bay is a lagoon, closed off by a reef. The water inside stays shallow and flat, which suits children and suits anyone learning a board sport. It also means this is not the side for open ocean swimming or waves; for that you drive to the south or the north-west coast. The neighbourhood is quiet and residential. There is no village centre and no walking around town, so you will use a car, as you would almost anywhere here. Wind is a constant on this side, which is exactly what the flat water is paired with.

Six bedrooms, twelve guests

AQUA has six bedrooms and is set up for twelve people. I cannot tell you how the beds are arranged, and I would rather say so than guess; ask me and I will check the exact configuration before you book. A cot is available, so a baby does not need to travel with one. The kitchen is a full kitchen: oven, hob, microwave, and a barbecue outside for the evenings when nobody wants to cook indoors. There is an ironing board too, which matters on a long stay.

Pool, air conditioning and arrival

The pool is private and heated. The villa is air conditioned. There is a fitness room in the house, wifi and high-speed internet, and a television. An airport shuttle is among the services listed for the villa, and I confirm the arrangement before you land. Anything I am not certain of about the house, I check rather than guess.

Who this house is for

Since nothing here comes looking for you after dark, the house has to be the reason you booked, and this one is set up for a group that wants exactly that. There is room for the whole party, a full kitchen with a barbecue for the nights nobody feels like going out, a heated pool, and a fitness room indoors. It suits a family or a group happy to settle in and cook for themselves, small children included, with a cot on hand and an ironing board for the length of the stay.

It is not for everyone. If your idea of an evening is walking out to shops and restaurants after dark, you will feel the distance, and somewhere busier would suit you better. Come for the kind of stay where the house is the point, not a bed you leave each night.

What the villa has

Common questions

Is the water in Grand-Cul-de-Sac good for young children?

It is calm. The reef closes the lagoon, so there is no swell inside and the water stays shallow and flat. The trade-off is that it is flat and windy rather than dramatic, and there is no surf inside the lagoon. If you want open ocean, you will be taking the car to another coast, such as Saline in the south or Flamands on the north-west side.

Do we need to rent a car?

Yes. Grand-Cul-de-Sac is residential, with no town centre to walk to and no shopping street. Anything you do off the property involves driving, and that is true of most of the island, not just this neighbourhood. An airport shuttle is listed for the villa, so arrival can be covered, but plan on a rental for the rest of the stay.

What is in the house for a long stay with a baby?

The kitchen is complete: oven and hob, microwave, and a barbecue outside. A cot is available, so you do not have to bring one. There is an ironing board, air conditioning, wifi with high-speed internet, and a television. The fitness room is inside the house, and the pool is private and heated. If you need a detail I have not listed here, ask me and I will check it rather than guess.

Rates

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
