Gustavia, St Barth

Axel Rocks · Five Bedrooms in Gustavia

Axel Rocks has five bedrooms and sleeps nine, in Gustavia. Gustavia is the harbour town and the island's capital: shops, quays, flat ground, and a lot of activity. There is no beach in Gustavia itself. I live on St Barth all year, so anything this page does not state, I can go and check rather than guess. Here is what the house actually includes.

Ask about this villa

I am on St Barth. Want to be sure before you book? Ask me and I will send you fresh photos or a short video of this villa on WhatsApp, or go and see it in person for you. Nothing staged, nothing hidden.

What Gustavia is really like

Gustavia sits around the port. It is flat, which is not the case in most parts of the island, so moving around town does not involve the climbs you get elsewhere. It is also the busiest part of St Barth. Boats come and go, the streets fill up in season, and it stays lively into the evening. There is no beach in Gustavia itself; to swim you take the car. Parking in town is tight during the day. If you want silence at night, this is not the corner of the island for you.

The house, in plain facts

Five bedrooms, sleeping nine. I won't describe how the beds are split, because I would be guessing; ask me and I'll confirm the configuration before you commit. The kitchen has an oven and hob, a microwave, and there is a barbecue outside. The pool is private and heated. There is a fitness room. Air conditioning, wifi and broadband internet, a television, an ironing board. A cot is available for a baby, and the house is listed as child-friendly. An airport shuttle is available.

Who this suits, and who it doesn't

This works for a group of up to nine who would rather be in the town than drive into it. The cot and the child-friendly setup make it workable with young children, though I'd want to confirm how the five bedrooms are arranged before saying it fits two families sharing. The pool being heated matters to some guests more than they expect. If your idea of St Barth is waking up to nothing but sea and silence, look at another part of the island and I'll tell you which.

In it, not above it

Most people picture a villa here as a perch set apart from everything, private, quiet, the kind you drive out of to reach anything else. Axel Rocks is the opposite choice. You're inside the town rather than looking down on it, and that's the whole point of the address: the life of the place is something you walk out into, not something you plan an outing around.

So the honest question isn't what the house leaves you wanting, because it wants for nothing, you could go days without stepping past the gate. It's whether you want the town in your days at all. Some people picture a villa as a place to shut the door on the world; if that's you, this isn't the one, and I'll tell you so and point you up to the hills. If it's the reverse, and you like to step out and already be in the island's life rather than driving off to find it, the address is doing exactly what you'd want.

What the villa has

Common questions

Is there a beach at the villa, or in Gustavia?

No. Gustavia is the port and the capital, not a beach neighbourhood. You will drive to swim, so plan on a rental car, even though an airport shuttle is available. What you get instead is the flat, walkable part of the island, with the quays and the shops there.

How are the five bedrooms arranged for nine guests?

I won't publish a room-by-room breakdown I'm not certain of, because getting that wrong ruins a trip. Tell me who is travelling, couples, children, ages, and I'll come back with the exact configuration and confirm the house fits your group before anything is booked.

Does it work with young children?

The house is listed as child-friendly, a cot is available, and the pool is heated. What a listing can't tell you is whether the pool has any barrier. Ask me and I'll go and check rather than guess. That is the point of my being on the island.

Rates

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
