Marigot, St Barth

CAPTIVA: five bedrooms in Marigot, sleeping twelve

I live on St Barth year round, so I can tell you plainly what this one is and is not. Five bedrooms in Marigot, sleeping twelve. Marigot is on the northeast coast: residential, quiet, with a small sheltered cove and very little passing traffic. You will need a car.

What Marigot is actually like

Marigot sits on the northeast coast, and it is mostly houses. There is a small sheltered cove, and not much else, no shopping street, no line of restaurants, little passing traffic. People who stay here tend to want it quiet. That has a cost: everything else on the island is a drive away, and you will want a rental car from day one. If you want to walk out of the door into activity, Marigot is the wrong choice. If you want to hear nothing at night, it is a good one.

The house and what is in it

CAPTIVA has five bedrooms and sleeps twelve. I am not going to invent a bed plan for you: the configuration is something to confirm with me before you book, because twelve people can be arranged in several ways and only one of them will suit your group. There is a private pool, and it is heated. Inside, a full kitchen with an oven and hob, a microwave, and a barbecue outside. Air conditioning, wifi and high-speed internet, a television, and an ironing board. There is also a fitness room in the house.

Coming with children, and arrival day

The house is set up for children: a cot is available, and the heated pool matters more than people expect, because young children get cold in water that adults find fine. The fitness room is there if you are the one who wakes early. An airport shuttle is among the villa's services, which handles the awkward first hour of arrival day, though you will still want your own car afterwards. Groceries and everything else are a drive from here, so plan one proper shop at the start rather than daily errands.

Who the quiet is for

The quiet only works if there is enough at the house to fill the days, and here there is. A heated pool the children can actually stay in, a fitness room for whoever wakes first, a full kitchen and a barbecue outside for the nights you would rather stay put. You settle into a place like this; you do not treat it as somewhere to sleep between outings.

So it suits a group that came to be together in one spot, slow mornings by the pool, the kind of stay you stock up for once and then barely leave, dinners cooked in rather than booked. It suits less the traveller who treats a villa as a base, out from morning, back only to sleep, because all of this comfort then sits unused. If that is closer to how you travel, say so when you write; better to weigh it honestly first than watch a good week go half-used.

What the villa has

Common questions

How are the five bedrooms arranged for twelve guests?

I do not publish a bed plan. A wrong assumption about who sleeps where is the kind of thing that spoils a trip for two families sharing, so I would rather confirm the exact configuration with you directly before you commit to the dates.

Is Marigot a good base if we would rather not drive?

Honestly, no. Marigot is residential and quiet, with a small sheltered cove and almost nothing in the way of services within walking distance. Everything on the island is reachable, but by car. If walking out to shops and nightlife matters to you, tell me and I will point you elsewhere.

We are travelling with a small child. Is the house set up for that?

Yes. A cot is available, and the pool is heated, which counts for more than people expect with young children. Tell me their ages when you write and I will go through the practical points with you, including what the airport shuttle can and cannot cover on arrival day.

Rates

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
