What St-Jean is actually like

St-Jean is the central bay. The airport runway borders it, so aircraft pass close by during the day; it goes quiet in the evening. The beach is the busiest on the island. Shops, groceries and services are all here, which is the real reason people choose St-Jean: you can get through a week without driving far. If what you want is an empty beach, this is not the side of the island for it. Gouverneur and Saline are, and both take a car and some effort.

Nine bedrooms, eighteen sleeping places

Nine bedrooms, eighteen sleeping places. I won't tell you how those places are divided up, because I don't have that, and guessing is a poor way to plan a trip for two families. Ask me and I'll check the exact configuration before you commit to anything. What I can say is the scale: this is a house sized for a group, not for a couple. If you'd rather have everyone under one roof than split across separate rentals, that's the situation this house answers.

What comes with the house

The list, plainly: kitchen, air conditioning, wifi with high-speed internet, television, a private pool that is heated, and an airport shuttle. The shuttle matters more than it sounds, because having the transfer already arranged saves the usual scramble on arrival. A heated pool is worth having in the cooler months, when unheated water can feel cold in the evening. Anything beyond that list — how the rooms are arranged, what sits where — ask me and I'll check.

What St-Jean Is Really Like

St-Jean is the island's central bay, on the north coast. The airport runway borders one end of it. Planes come in low over the road through the day, and you hear them. They stop in the early evening, but that noise is the trade-off for being here, and I would rather say it plainly than let you discover it on arrival.

The beach is long and the water is calmer than on the ocean-facing side. It is also the busiest beach on the island. In exchange, shops and everyday services are close by, which is unusual here — in most quarters you drive for everything.

St-Jean is not the place if you want quiet or isolation. There is traffic, and in high season the bay is full. If you want people and convenience, it works.

Common questions

Can you walk to the beach from Estate Azalea?

I'm not going to claim that. I know the villa is in St-Jean and I know the neighbourhood well, but I don't have the details of where this particular house sits, so I won't invent them. What I can tell you about St-Jean itself: the beach is public, it's the busiest one on the island, and shops and services are right there. Send me your dates and I'll confirm the villa's exact situation before you book anything.

How much does Estate Azalea cost per week?

Rates are on request. They move with the season and with the specific dates, and putting a number on this page that turns out to be wrong helps nobody. Tell me when you want to come and how many of you there are, and I'll come back with the real figure rather than a range you'd have to renegotiate later.

Is nine bedrooms the right fit for two or three families?

It might be, but the number on its own doesn't answer it. Nine bedrooms and eighteen sleeping places tells you nothing about how those places are configured, and that's usually what decides it for a group with children or grandparents. Give me the make-up of your party and I'll check the room-by-room breakdown so you can decide on facts.

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
