Grand-Cul-de-Sac sits on the northeast side of the island, and its whole character comes from one thing: a reef closes the bay. The water inside stays shallow and flat, with no waves reaching the shore. You can walk out a long way and still be standing. That is why the windsurfing and kitesurfing happen in this bay — flat water and a steady breeze.
Be honest about what that means. If you want deep water to swim in, or surf, this is the wrong bay. The breeze that feeds the boards also crosses the lagoon, so it is rarely still here.
You are also at one end of the island. The shops and the airport at St-Jean are a short drive, and Gustavia is further, on a winding road. You need a car here, every day.
