What St-Jean is really like
St-Jean is the centre of the island's daily activity. The bay is central, the shops and services are concentrated there, and the airstrip runs alongside it. You hear planes during the day. The beach here is one of the most frequented on the island. If you want silence and an empty stretch of sand, this is not the neighbourhood. If you want to be within reach of shops and services, it is. Ask me what the setting is like around SEALA itself and I will describe it as it is.
Five bedrooms, ten guests
SEALA has five bedrooms and sleeps ten. I won't guess at how the beds are split between the rooms; ask me and I will confirm the exact configuration before you book, because it matters when you are two families rather than one. The pool is private and heated. There is a fitness room in the house. Air conditioning, television, wifi and a high-speed internet connection are all in place.
Cooking, families and getting here
The kitchen has an oven and cooktop, a microwave, and there is a barbecue outside. With ten people in the house, being able to cook is not a detail. A baby cot is available, so you do not have to fly one in, and there is an ironing board. The villa comes with an airport shuttle: tell me your flight and I arrange it. Who it suits, and who it doesn't
This is a house built for a group to be together, five bedrooms, ten people, often two families under one roof. Being in the middle of things is part of that. A group this size rarely wants the same thing at the same hour, and a base in the thick of the island's life keeps everyone loosely tied together instead of scattered and waiting on each other's plans. If your trip is about the group and being out and about, the address is doing its job.
What I won't do is sell it as a retreat. Whoever pictures St Barth as a week of seclusion, a couple wanting to see no one for days, will be happier on the quieter side: Flamands, Marigot or the south. I would rather point them there before they book than leave them to work it out on arrival. For a full house that wants to be where the island's life is, SEALA sits in the right place.

You hear planes in St-Jean during the day. The runway borders the bay, so the traffic is regular. How much of it reaches a given house depends on the house, and I will not pretend to know without saying which. Ask me and I will tell you straight rather than let you find out on arrival.
Can SEALA work for two families travelling together?
Five bedrooms and ten sleeping places, so the headcount works. What I will not do is invent the bed layout for you: five rooms and ten beds can be arranged in several ways, and that difference decides whether two families are comfortable or not. Do we need a car if we stay in St-Jean?
Yes, plan on one. St-Jean has shops and services, which helps, but the rest of the island, the other beaches, Gustavia, the restaurants, is reachable by car. Whether you can walk anywhere useful from SEALA itself depends on exactly where it sits, and I would rather tell you that directly than have you assume. Ask me before you book, not after.
