Corossol, St Barth

Villa Nanne — 4 Bedrooms in Corossol, St Barth

Nanne is a four-bedroom villa in Corossol, the old fishing village a few minutes from Gustavia. It sleeps eight. The equipment is straightforward: a private heated pool, air conditioning, a kitchen, television, high-speed wifi, and an airport shuttle. I live on the island year-round, so what follows is what I would tell a friend, drawbacks included.

Four bedrooms, eight guests

Four bedrooms, eight guests. That is the whole capacity, and it is a sane ratio: four couples, or two families splitting the rooms. I am not going to guess how the beds are laid out, because the ratio alone does not tell me. If you need doubles rather than twins, or the reverse, ask me and I will confirm the exact configuration before you book. The pool is private and heated. Air conditioning, a kitchen, television, high-speed internet, and an airport shuttle is listed among the services.

What Corossol is actually like

Corossol is a working fishing village on the northwest coast, and one of the few places where the older island life is still visible. Boats are pulled up on the sand. It is residential and calm. The small beach is where boats land and where you swim; it is not a beach where you set up for the day with a cooler and an umbrella. For that you drive. Gustavia is a few minutes away, which is the practical advantage of this village.

Who this house suits

Plan on a rental car. Corossol is residential, so you will drive to the beaches you came for, to the shops, and to dinner. The upside is that you start those drives from a calm village rather than from a busy bay. This house suits people who want to sleep somewhere quiet, not somewhere with activity on the doorstep. If you want a beach within walking distance, tell me and I will point you at a different villa. Write to me with your dates and I answer myself.

Corossol, Day To Day

Corossol sits on the northwest coast, a few minutes by car from Gustavia. It is a working fishing village, and one of the few places on the island where the older way of life is still plainly visible. Boats are pulled up on the sand. It is residential and calm.

The beach is small and sheltered. You can swim there, and boats come and go. What you cannot do is treat it as a day beach — that is not what the sand is for. If you want to spend a full day by the water, you drive: St-Jean, Flamands, Saline and Gouverneur are all reachable, and all require the car.

Who it does not suit: anyone who wants to walk out the door onto a wide beach, anyone who wants shops, nightlife or restaurants within walking distance, and anyone uncomfortable being a visitor in a neighbourhood where people are simply living their lives. Gustavia is close, but close by car, not on foot.

What the villa has

Common questions

How are the four bedrooms arranged for eight guests?

Four bedrooms for eight is a standard ratio, but the number alone does not tell me whether the rooms are doubles, twins, or a mix. I do not want to invent it. Tell me who is travelling and I will confirm the exact bed configuration in writing before you commit to anything.

Can we walk to a beach from the villa?

Plan on driving. Corossol has a small sheltered beach where the fishing boats are pulled up, and you can swim there, but it is not a place to spend the day. The bigger beaches on the island all require a car, as does everything else. Budget for a rental for the whole stay.

There is an airport shuttle — do we still need a car?

Yes. An airport shuttle is listed among the services of the house, and I will confirm in writing exactly what it covers for your dates. It handles a transfer, not your stay. Corossol is residential, so for beaches, shops and dinner you will want your own car the whole time.

Rates

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
