Flamands, St Barth

Sand Club — Beachfront Villa in Flamands, Six Bedrooms

6 bedrooms · sleeps 12 · Price on request

Sand Club sits on the beach at Flamands: six bedrooms, twelve guests, and terraces that open onto the sand rather than look at it from a distance. The pool, the terrace and the sand run into one another, so this is a house you live on the outside of more than the inside. Rates on request.

The house and how it is laid out

Six bedrooms, twelve guests. The terraces are the part of this house people actually live on — wide enough that a group of twelve spreads out instead of stacking up, with the pool set among them. Past the terrace the sand begins; access to the beach is from the property itself. Air conditioning. The kitchen is equipped for real cooking, with oven and stove, and there is a grill outside for the nights when nobody wants to be indoors. Fitness equipment is on site, along with wifi and television.

Flamands, and what beachfront actually means

On this island, "near the beach" and "on the beach" describe two different stays. Sand Club is the second: you step off the terrace onto the sand, from the property itself. An airport shuttle is listed among the villa's amenities, so the arrival is handled rather than improvised. Beyond that the house is self-contained — kitchen with oven and stove, a grill outside, pool, gym, air conditioning, wifi and television — for people who would rather not go out every evening.

Who it works for

The arithmetic is even: six rooms, twelve people. Nobody ends up on a sofa or in a room that was obviously an afterthought. That makes it a straightforward fit for three or four couples travelling together, or two families sharing, where everyone wants their own door to close. The gym and the kitchen matter for stays longer than a week — they are what stop a house from feeling like a hotel room with a view. If you are twelve and you want the beach at the end of the terrace rather than at the end of a drive, this is the shape of house you are looking for.

What Flamands Is Really Like

Flamands sits on the northwest coast. From Gustavia and the port it is about ten minutes by car, up over the hill and back down. St-Jean, where most of the shops are, is a slightly shorter drive.

The beach is the reason people come here. It is long, wide, and open to the ocean, which means real swell. Some days the water is flat and easy. Other days the shore break is strong enough that I would not put a small child in it. There is no reef in front to calm things down. If you want a sea like a swimming pool, this is not it — the lagoon side of the island is calmer.

The road in runs along the hillside and drops toward the sand. It is narrow in places, and it stops at the far end of the bay, so almost nothing passes through. Flamands is quiet, and evenings are dark.

I would not recommend it if you want to walk everywhere or be near activity. You will drive for most things. If you want space, a long beach, and the sound of surf at night, this works.

What the villa has

Common questions

How many people does Sand Club sleep?

Six bedrooms, twelve guests.

Is it genuinely on the beach, or just close to it?

On it. The terrace ends and the sand begins — you reach the beach from the property itself, not from a car park down the road.

What does it cost?

Rates are on request. Send me your dates and I will come back with the figure and current availability.

Rates and availability

Rates depend on the season and the length of stay, so I quote them case by case rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong half the year. Tell me your dates and who is travelling, and I come back with the real number and what is still open.
