Colombier

Villa Rental in Colombier

For guests who want the most private, most dramatic stretch of St. Barth, with sunset views you will think about long after you leave.

Cliffside infinity pool in Colombier overlooking the Caribbean and offshore islands at sunset

Colombier sits at the far northwest tip of the island, past Flamands, on a hillside that drops sharply into the sea. The road ends here. So does most of the foot traffic. The villas perched on this ridge are some of the most private and architecturally interesting in the Caribbean, and the views from their terraces look out over open water with nothing but the silhouette of St. Martin in the distance on a clear day.

There is a beach below, but you cannot drive to it. Colombier beach (sometimes called Rockefeller beach for its history) is reached by a hiking trail of about twenty minutes, or by boat. That is part of why the bay below stays so quiet. Most of the people you see on it have either earned the trail down or anchored their tender for the afternoon.

What the Villas Look Like

The properties in Colombier are built for the view. Most are large, often four to seven bedrooms, designed with the living areas opening directly onto a terrace and infinity pool. The architecture varies, some are traditional Caribbean with stone and wood, others are sharp modern lines and floor-to-ceiling glass. What they share is privacy. Many sit far enough apart that you cannot see a neighboring property from your pool deck.

Sunsets are the daily event. Most villas in Colombier face west, and the light at the end of the afternoon is something the photos never quite capture. Guests who visit in February and March often say it is the moment that defined the trip.

When Colombier Works Best

Couples who want privacy, families who want a property with the staff and space to disappear into for a week, and groups who plan to use the villa as the centerpiece of the trip rather than commuting in and out for activities. If you intend to spend most of your time at the villa, with meals at home from a private chef and a pool you barely leave, Colombier is the right neighborhood.

Where it is less ideal: if you want to walk to dinner, want easy access to a beach without a hike, or want to be in the middle of the action. Colombier is intentionally remote. Restaurants, beaches with road access, and town are a ten to fifteen minute drive away. For a more central choice, see our Gustavia villa rental page or the broader neighborhood guide.

Booking and Availability

Colombier villas are limited in number and almost never fully empty. The largest properties are confirmed up to a year in advance for the peak weeks (Christmas, New Year, February school holidays). For the rest of peak season, four to six months ahead gives you good selection. May, June, and November are the easier windows.

We have walked through these properties and know the differences that matter, the layout for groups, the breeze in summer, the pool size relative to the photos. Send us your dates and we will share what is open with our honest take on each one.

Common questions

Is there a beach you can drive to in Colombier?

No. The beach below the cliffs is hike-only, about twenty minutes down a rocky trail from the end of the road. For drive-up beaches, the closest are Flamands (five minutes) and Petite Anse (ten minutes).

How private are Colombier villas?

Very. The properties sit on a hillside with significant distance between them. Many have no visible neighboring villa from the pool deck. Privacy and seclusion are the primary draw of the area.

Are sunsets really better in Colombier?

They are reliably good because the orientation is west and the horizon is wide open. Most villas have terraces facing the sunset, designed around it. February and March produce the cleanest skies.

How big are the villas in Colombier?

Most run from four to seven bedrooms, with some larger estates. Smaller two-bedroom properties are rare here. If you are a couple wanting an intimate stay, Lurin or Lorient may be a better fit.

Can I get to Gustavia easily for dinner?

About fifteen minutes by car. The road is winding but quick. We coordinate restaurant reservations and arrange drivers if you would rather not drive after dinner.
