What you accept at this address
You drive for everything. Groceries, the airport, dinner, all of it is a car ride from here. Plan on a vehicle, and with a house this size expect to need two so that people can move independently. The beach is not at the door either. You take a track, park, then walk over the dune. There is nothing on the sand: no service, no rental, no shade. Bring what you need and carry it back. The water is open ocean, so the swell is real and it changes day to day. Some mornings are flat, others are not, and this is not the address to pick if you need calm water every day for small children.

Saline or St-Jean — how do I choose?
St-Jean is the busy centre of the island. The bay is lined with commerce, the airstrip runs alongside it, and you can walk to most of what you need. Saline is the opposite: no commerce, no passage, and a car for everything. Pick St-Jean if you want to leave the car parked. Pick Saline if you want the day to be quiet by default.
I am travelling with young children. Is Saline a mistake?
It can be. Saline faces the open ocean and the swell is genuine, so the shore break is not always gentle. Grand-Cul-de-Sac is the honest alternative: a lagoon closed by a reef, shallow and flat. Lorient is another option, with a reef along the beach and a real village behind it. If calm water matters more than isolation, look there first.
Do I need a car if I rent in Saline?
Yes, and I would not rent here without one. There is no shop, no restaurant and no service within walking distance, and the beach itself is reached by a track, then the dune on foot. Everything else on the island is a drive. If you would rather not drive at all, Gustavia is flat and walkable and a better fit.
